How to Install Baseboard Under Kitchen Cabinets

Installing baseboard under kitchen cabinets adds a finishing touch and protects the floor from moisture and debris. Follow these steps to achieve a professional-looking installation:

1. Measure and Cut the Baseboard

Measure the length of the cabinet run and subtract any areas where there will be breaks, such as appliances. Cut the baseboard to size using a miter saw or a handsaw with a miter box.

2. Install the Baseboard Clips

Determine the spacing of the baseboard clips along the bottom of the cabinet. Use a nail gun to secure the clips every 12-16 inches. Avoid nailing into the face of the cabinet.

3. Align and Secure the Baseboard

Place the baseboard over the clips and align it with the cabinet edge. Use a rubber mallet or a heavy object to gently tap the baseboard into place. Make sure it is flush with the floor.

4. Fill Any Gaps

If there are any gaps between the baseboard and the floor or cabinet, apply a thin bead of caulk. Smooth the caulk with a damp finger or a caulk tool.

5. Trim and Paint (Optional)

Trim any excess caulk with a sharp utility knife. If desired, paint the baseboard to match the kitchen décor. Allow the paint to dry completely before reinstalling the toe kick.
