How To Hang Kitchen Cabinets On Cinder Block Walls

Hanging kitchen cabinets on cinder block walls can present some unique challenges compared to drywall or plaster walls. However, with the right tools and techniques, it is possible to achieve a secure and professional-looking installation. Here are the essential steps on how to hang kitchen cabinets on cinder block walls.

Gather Your Tools and Materials

Before you start, make sure you have all the necessary tools and materials, including:

Cordless drill
Hammer drill with masonry bit
Masonry anchors (toggle bolts or wedge anchors)
Level
Tape measure
Pencil
Safety glasses

Mark the Wall Studs

Cinder block walls do not have studs like traditional walls, so you will need to mark the locations of the wall studs. Use a stud finder to locate the studs and mark them with a pencil.

Drill Pilot Holes

Use a hammer drill with a masonry bit to drill pilot holes into the cinder blocks. The holes should be slightly smaller than the diameter of the masonry anchors you are using.

Insert Masonry Anchors

Insert the masonry anchors into the pilot holes. If you are using toggle bolts, open the wings of the toggle bolt and insert it into the hole. For wedge anchors, tap the anchor into the hole until it is flush with the surface of the wall.

Hang the Cabinets

Align the cabinets with the marked studs and lift them into place. Secure the cabinets to the wall by driving screws through the pre-drilled holes in the cabinets into the masonry anchors.

Level and Adjust

Once the cabinets are hung, use a level to check that they are level both horizontally and vertically. Adjust the screws as needed to level the cabinets.
