How To Add Molding To Kitchen Cabinet Doors

Kitchen cabinet doors can be transformed into elegant focal points by adding molding. It is a simple and inexpensive way to update the look of your kitchen without having to replace the entire cabinets.

There are different types of molding to choose from and a wide range of design options are available. The most common type of molding used for kitchen cabinets is applied molding which is installed directly on the surface of the door.

Adding molding to kitchen cabinet doors is a relatively easy project that can be completed in a few hours. However, it is important to take your time and follow the instructions carefully to ensure that the molding is installed correctly.

Tools and materials you will need:

  • Molding of your choice
  • Miter saw or miter box
  • Wood glue
  • Brad nailer or hammer and nails
  • Filler
  • Sandpaper
  • Paint or stain (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Measure and cut the molding to the desired length. If you are using a miter saw, be sure to set the saw to a 45-degree angle.
  2. Apply a thin layer of wood glue to the back of the molding.
  3. Position the molding on the cabinet door and press it into place. Use a brad nailer or hammer and nails to secure the molding.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 for the remaining molding pieces.
  5. Once the molding is installed, fill any gaps or nail holes with filler. Allow the filler to dry completely.
  6. Sand the filler smooth and paint or stain the molding to match the cabinet doors (optional).

Tips:

  • If you are not sure what type of molding to use, ask for help at your local home improvement store.
  • Be sure to measure the cabinet doors carefully before cutting the molding.
  • Use a brad nailer or hammer and nails to secure the molding. Nails will hold the molding securely, but a brad nailer will give you a more professional-looking finish.
  • If you are painting or staining the molding, be sure to allow it to dry completely before reattaching it to the cabinet doors.
